Red Kite

Saw a picture of a red kite (another graceful predator bird) and decided to paint it. Tried out watercolors on paper that has been primed with gesso again, this time, added some gold poster paints in for the fun of it (very inspired by the book ).

It was messy at first. There is a waterproof quality to the primed surface, making the watercolor paint easily removable (good and bad...). I was quite clueless as to how the poster paint will work in there too and just squeezed the paint onto the paper and mix it with the wet watercolors. After everything dried, took a pen knife and added in the highlights. Quite happy with the result, a challenging process.
